Aliso/Wood Canyon on 09/11/10

Location:
Aliso/Wood Canyons in Laguna Niguel (near corner of Aliso Creek and Alicia). Meet across from church in dirt parking lot on Awma Rd.
Directions:
From Irvine, take 5 south. Exit at Alicia Parkway and head south. Turn right on Awma Rd, which is just past Aliso Creek Road.
About the run:
Out-and-back or loop course, 6-14 miles. Mainly dirt trails. At the right turn onto the dirt (by the outhouses) continue parallel to the road on single track Meadows Trail. After 1/2 mile, trail turns right and starts switchbacks up to the top of the ridge – great views of the ocean at the top. Go right, trail winds behind a few houses, and then hits Alta Vista road. Run on road about 2 miles to Top of the World, continue down West Ridge Trail. Can return to church via Mathis, Lynx or Cholla trails. Bring water. The Mathis Trail version is about 9 miles.

Back Bay Classic on 09/18/10

Corner of Eastbluff and Back Bay Drive.
Directions:
Take Jamboree Exit off the 405—head West; go about 2 miles; Right on Eastbluff; go .2 miles - park on the right; we begin running at Back Bay Drive.
About the run:
The “standard” loop is 10.5 miles. You can extend the run along the bike path or shorten the run by making it out and back as far as you like. Water is available at several points along the way (~miles 3.5, 5, 7 along the “standard” loop).
After the run:
Starbucks on Bristol and Jamboree.

Orange Coast Cross Country Classic on 09/18/10

Fairview Park in Costa Mesa, California
About the run:
$15.00 per individual (No athletes on your form 3 rosters may run in the race). Entry will include Pancake Breakfast. Sign-up at Finish line table before 7:30 am, if under 18 you must have parent sign release form.
Awards: Presentation will follow men’s race. Approximately 11:00 am. Individual awards top 20 plus. Team awards top 3. Top fifteen men and women in open race will receive award immediately after race.

Jim Grant Memorial Run on 09/25/10

Alton Athletic Park parking lot. Directly across the street from Woodbridge High School. On corner of West Yale Loop and Alton.

From South Orange County:
Take 5 North to 405 North, exit Culver Blvd. Turn RIGHT on Culver. Turn RIGHT on Alton. Turn LEFT on West Yale Loop. Parking lot on immediate Left side.

From North OC:
Take 405 South. Exit Culver Blvd. Turn LEFT on Culver. Turn RIGHT on Alton. Turn LEFT on West Yale Loop. Parking lot on immediate Left side.
About the run:
This is a very special run to honor our friend Jim Grant as this was his last run before his passing in late September 2009. Run starts at parking lot and heads up West Yale Loop briefly before we turn left onto the paved (Mountains to Sea) trail. Distance can range from a few miles to 14 miles out and back. There is a bathroom and drinking fountain at the start and there are drinking fountains along the run every 2-3 miles. It's about 3 miles out to Boomers (at Michelson), 5 miles out to drinking fountain just past UC Irvine, 6 miles to the rock (Vista Point), and 7 miles to stop light at Jamboree past Corona Del Mar High School.

2010 Long Beach ICB Marathon and Half Marathon on 10/17/10

From Southern Orange County and San Diego :
  • Take the San Diego Freeway (405) North to the Long Beach Freeway (710) to Long Beach. Take Broadway to Pine Avenue; turn right on Pine, PCH, and Anaheim exit. Proceed to Pine Avenue and then turn right. Take Pine Ave. to Seaside Way and turn left to enter the Convention Center parking lot.
  • Take the San Diego Freeway (405) North to Atlantic Blvd or Long Beach Blvd. Go south to downtown until Ocean Blvd. Take Ocean Blvd. to Linden (right from Atlantic or left from Long Beach Blvd). Take Linden South to Seaside Way and turn left to enter the Long Beach Arena parking lot
Do not take the 7th Street Exit off the 22 or 405 Freeways after 5 a.m. due to road closures

  • Plan to arrive at least 90 minutes early! With several thousand people arriving over an hour or two, traffic into Long Beach is significant. It can take 30 to 45 minutes from the freeway to the parking facility.
  • Pre-purchase your parking online. You will get a pass and a map to quickly direct you to the correct lots.
  • The Convention Center charges $10.00 for parking and the City lots charge $8.00 (pre-paid parking is $8.00).
  • The Convention Center and Pike parking lots are both within walking distance to the start/finish line area.
  • If you park in the lots along or off Broadway, you should WALK east to Pine and turn right, and take Pine past the Convention Center and the Hyatt Hotel, turn left on Shoreline Drive to the Starting Line.
About the run:
Fees and Discounts: The marathon is currently $100, the half is currently $80 and the 5k is currently $35. All go up $10 after 8-31. After 10-12 the full and half go up another $10. For the full and half use the code "2010SCRR" for a $5 discount at active.com.

The Long Beach race course combines spectacular oceanfront vistas, charming seaside communities, and the metropolitan start and finish. We truly believe this course is one of the most beautiful big city marathons in the United States and we invite you to participate! Fast, Flat and Scenic. 80% on or within sight of the ocean The highest elevation on the course is 45-feet. Course Outline Start on Shoreline Drive , pass the new Pike at Shoreline Village , cross the Queensway Bridge and run to the bow of the Queen Mary , circle back around the Aquarium of the Pacific , the Lighthouse at Rainbow Harbor , Pierpoint Landing, back by Shoreline Village and down the beach. At approximately Mile 10.5, is "the split" where the Half Marathoners circle back west on Ocean Blvd. Marathoners continue east on Ocean Blvd. to Livingston, passing through beautiful Belmont Shore . Miles 12-13 take in the spectacular scenery of Marine Stadium , then make a U-Turn at the end of Marine Stadium. After leaving Marine Stadium, runners circle Colorado Lagoon and head towards California State University , Long Beach Introduced in 2008 to great reviews, miles 17, 18, and 19 travel through the campus of California State University, Long Beach and pass the Pyramid Sports Complex. In 2008, there were 6,000 students and supporters on hand to cheer the athletes along through the campus! Pass Recreation Park , Blair Field and the Colorado Lagoon , the homestretch is now in sight. Reconnect to Ocean Blvd. alongside beautiful Bluff Park , and head through "the corridor" after mile 25 before reaching downtown. Celebrate as you turn left from Ocean Blvd. onto Shoreline Drive for the slight downhill finish directly across from the Marina Green Beach Party Finish Line Festival.
